Specialty Disease Management Services (SDMS) was a healthcare services company focused on the clinical and financial management of high-cost specialty drugs and chronic diseases. The company provided specialized programs for complex conditions including hemophilia, multiple sclerosis, and rheumatoid arthritis, aiming to improve patient adherence and reduce medical spend for insurers. SDMS operated by coordinating care between patients, physicians, and payers to ensure appropriate utilization of expensive therapies. In 2002, it was acquired by Magellan Health Services for $45 million, becoming a key part of Magellan's expansion into the specialty pharmacy management market. The entity's functions have since been absorbed into Magellan Rx Management, which is now a subsidiary of Centene Corporation.
