SpectRx

SpectRx was a medical technology company that specialized in developing non-invasive diagnostic and monitoring devices using proprietary biophotonics technology. The company's most successful product, BiliChek, allowed for the non-invasive measurement of bilirubin levels in newborns, significantly reducing the need for painful blood draws in neonatal care. SpectRx also developed the Luma cervical imaging system to enhance the detection of precancerous lesions and explored non-invasive glucose monitoring for diabetes management. In 2003, the company sold its neonatal business to Respironics for approximately $11 million. Following a series of restructurings, the company eventually merged with its subsidiary and changed its name to Guided Therapeutics in 2008.
