Company intelligence / Profile preview
Spider Biotech was an Italian biotechnology company focused on the discovery and development of novel antimicrobial peptides (AMPs) and lipopeptides for the treatment of infectious diseases and wound healing. Founded as a spin-off from the University of Turin, the company leveraged its expertise in peptide chemistry to develop a pipeline of candidates targeting Gram-negative bacteria and chronic wounds, such as diabetic foot ulcers. Its lead candidate, SB041, was a first-in-class antimicrobial peptide designed to promote healing and prevent infection in chronic wounds. In 2005, Spider Biotech was acquired by Newron Pharmaceuticals to strengthen its early-stage pipeline and expand its therapeutic focus.
