Spinal Dynamics

Spinal Dynamics was a U.S. medical device company focused on motion-preserving spinal implants, primarily artificial cervical disc replacement technology. Its lead product was the Bryan Cervical Disc System, an implanted prosthetic disc designed to replace diseased cervical intervertebral discs after discectomy while preserving motion in the cervical spine. The company was acquired by Medtronic in 2002 for approximately $269.5 million. Following the acquisition, the Bryan Cervical Disc continued under Medtronic and later received FDA PMA approval in 2009 for certain single-level cervical indications. Spinal Dynamics therefore should be viewed as a historical spine medtech company rather than an independent operating biotech or pharmaceutical business.
