EMA401
Phase 2- Indications
- Neuropathic pain, Post-herpetic neuralgia
Company intelligence / Profile preview
Spinifex Pharmaceuticals developed EMA401, a first-in-class oral AT2R antagonist for chronic neuropathic pain. Positive Phase II results were published in The Lancet, showing efficacy in post-herpetic neuralgia without central nervous system side effects or serious adverse events. The company was acquired by Novartis for $200 million upfront plus milestones to further develop this approach to peripheral neuropathic pain treatment. Later reports indicate that development of EMA401 was discontinued due to liver toxicity observed during long-term dosing studies in primates.
