Spiros Development Corp II was a specialized biotechnology entity established to fund and advance the clinical development of inhaled therapeutics using the proprietary Spiros dry powder inhaler (DPI) platform. Formed as a development-stage vehicle in collaboration between Dura Pharmaceuticals and Elan Corporation, the company focused on converting injectable or oral medications into inhaled formats for improved delivery. Its lead program was an inhaled formulation of insulin intended for the treatment of diabetes, which reached mid-stage clinical trials. The company was eventually integrated into Elan Corporation following its acquisition of Dura Pharmaceuticals, and the Spiros technology assets were later divested or discontinued during corporate restructurings.
