St. Francis Medical Technologies

St. Francis Medical Technologies was a medical device company specializing in the development of minimally invasive surgical implants for the treatment of spinal disorders. The company is best known for developing the X-STOP Interspinous Process Decompression (IPD) System, which became the first FDA-approved interspinous spacer for treating lumbar spinal stenosis. The X-STOP device was designed to be implanted between the spinous processes to prevent painful spinal extension while maintaining mobility. In 2007, the company was acquired by Kyphon for approximately $725 million, and its technology was subsequently integrated into Medtronic's spinal portfolio following Medtronic's acquisition of Kyphon later that same year.
