Company intelligence / Profile preview
Stanford Financial Group was a privately held international financial services conglomerate headquartered in Houston, Texas, led by Chairman Allen Stanford. The firm was famously revealed to be a massive $7 billion Ponzi scheme, primarily involving the sale of fraudulent certificates of deposit through its Antigua-based Stanford International Bank. Despite its fraudulent core, the group maintained a notable presence in the life sciences sector through its healthcare investment banking and equity research arms, which published influential reports on biotech patent litigation and Paragraph IV filings. The company was seized by U.S. federal authorities in February 2009 and placed into receivership, leading to the total dissolution of its operations. Allen Stanford was subsequently convicted of multiple counts of fraud and sentenced to 110 years in federal prison.
