Stemagen was a privately held biotechnology company based in La Jolla, California, that focused on the development of stem cell-based therapies. The company is best known for its 2008 announcement that its researchers had successfully created the first cloned human embryos from adult skin cells using somatic cell nuclear transfer (SCNT). This breakthrough was a significant step toward the goal of therapeutic cloning, which aims to produce patient-specific embryonic stem cells for regenerative medicine. Led by CEO Samuel Wood and CSO Andrew French, the company sought to apply this technology to treat conditions such as diabetes and spinal cord injuries.
