StemCell Pharma Inc. was a fraudulent biotechnology company based in Las Vegas, Nevada, founded in 2005 by Alfred Sapse. The company gained notoriety for marketing unapproved and scientifically unfounded stem cell "implants" derived from placental tissue, claiming they could cure incurable conditions such as multiple sclerosis, Parkinson's disease, and cerebral palsy. Following an investigation by the FDA and the U.S. Department of Justice, it was revealed that the company operated without medical licenses, used unsafe procedures that led to patient infections, and defrauded investors and patients of over $1 million. The company was shut down, and Alfred Sapse was convicted of fraud and sentenced to 17.5 years in prison in 2012.
