Stratos Biosystems

Stratos Biosystems was a Seattle-based life sciences company that developed advanced biochip technologies for protein biomarker discovery and proteomics. The company's flagship product, the EC-Affinity Biochip, utilized proprietary self-assembling surface chemistry to enable label-free analysis of peptides and proteins via MALDI mass spectrometry. By providing high sensitivity and selectivity, the platform allowed researchers to detect post-translational modifications and transcript variations more effectively than traditional imaging biochip readers. Stratos Biosystems was part of the Stratos Group incubator and shared leadership with Stratos Genomics, which was later acquired by Roche. The company's innovations in surface chemistry and digital microfluidics laid the groundwork for subsequent advancements in high-fidelity molecular sequencing and diagnostics.
