The Gum Arabic Company (GAC) is the primary state-linked enterprise in Sudan responsible for the processing and global export of gum arabic, a natural exudate from Acacia trees. As Sudan provides approximately 70% of the world's supply, GAC is a critical player in the global supply chain for the pharmaceutical, food, and cosmetic industries. The company's products, primarily Acacia Senegal (Hashab) and Acacia Seyal (Talha), serve as essential pharmaceutical excipients used for tablet binding, emulsification, and encapsulation. Beyond its role as an ingredient supplier, GAC is involved in the distribution of high-purity grades for medical applications, including its use as a prebiotic fiber and its studied benefits in reducing urea levels in patients with chronic kidney disease. Despite regional challenges, the company remains the central authority for quality control and standardization of Sudanese gum arabic exports.
