Sulzer Intermedics

Sulzer Intermedics was a leading medical technology company focused on the development and manufacture of cardiac rhythm management devices. The company was a major provider of implantable pacemakers and implantable cardioverter defibrillators (ICDs) used to treat various forms of cardiac arrhythmia. Originally founded as Intermedics, it became a subsidiary of the Swiss industrial group Sulzer AG in the late 1980s. In 1999, the company was acquired by Guidant Corporation for approximately $800 million, which significantly bolstered Guidant's position in the global pacing market. Following subsequent industry consolidations, its technology and product lines became part of Boston Scientific.
