Sun Biomedical Laboratories was a medical diagnostics company specializing in the development and manufacture of rapid, point-of-care drug-of-abuse testing products. The company's portfolio included proprietary technologies such as the Sun-Cup, Sun-Stick, and Sun-Dip, which provided integrated collection and testing solutions for clinical and workplace settings. Founded in 1993 and based in New Jersey, the company focused on simplifying the drug screening process through innovative device design that minimized sample handling and exposure. Their products were widely utilized across criminal justice, occupational health, and clinical toxicology sectors. In 2006, Sun Biomedical Laboratories was acquired by Inverness Medical Innovations for approximately $40 million in cash. Following the acquisition, its operations were integrated into the professional diagnostics division of Inverness, which later became Alere and was subsequently acquired by Abbott Laboratories.
