Superorganism is the first early-stage venture capital firm dedicated to investing in biodiversity-driven startups at pre-seed and seed stages. Its mission centers on supporting founders developing technology at the intersection of markets, technology, and biodiversity—spanning biotech, nature-based solutions, AI, materials science, agriculture tech—and aiming to address critical challenges such as climate change adaptation and prevention of biodiversity loss. The fund typically writes checks between $500k–$3M per investment round. Portfolio highlights include companies developing enzymes to break down pollutants (BluumBio), rewilding forest fungal microbiomes (Funga), biomanufactured chocolate alternatives to prevent deforestation (Planet A Foods), automated insect farming for alternative protein sources (Ovipost), cell lines from plant species for research or production purposes (Foray), among others. The fund also donates a portion of profits to conservation efforts. The team brings decades of experience across conservation technology/startups/venture investing—led by Tom Quigley and Kevin Webb—and actively collaborates with other investors rather than leading rounds themselves.
