Survival Technology, Inc. was a pioneering medical technology company best known for the invention and development of the EpiPen auto-injector. Originally founded as Rodana Research Corp, the company specialized in emergency medical treatments for both civilian and military applications, including nerve agent antidotes for the U.S. Department of Defense. Its most significant contribution to healthcare was the engineering of the pressure-activated auto-injector by Sheldon Kaplan, which revolutionized the treatment of severe allergic reactions. The company's technology platform enabled the rapid, self-administered delivery of life-saving medications in high-stress environments. Survival Technology was eventually acquired by Meridian Medical Technologies in 1996, which is now a subsidiary of Pfizer. Today, its legacy persists as the foundational technology for modern emergency drug-device combination products.
