Suzuki Pharmaceutical

Suzuki Pharmaceutical was a pioneering Japanese chemical/pharmaceutical company established in 1893–1907 by Saburosuke Suzuki II. It became known for extracting iodine from seaweed and later played a pivotal role in commercializing monosodium glutamate (MSG) after collaborating with Dr. Kikunae Ikeda—leading directly to the founding of Ajinomoto Co., Inc.[1][2][8]. The company's pharmaceutical activities included early exports of iodine and saltpeter but did not survive independently past the early 20th century due to market changes and mergers. Its legacy lives on primarily through Ajinomoto's global food science/pharma business.
