Symphonix

Symphonix Devices was a medical technology company that developed and commercialized implantable hearing solutions, most notably the Vibrant Soundbridge. As the first FDA-approved semi-implantable middle ear hearing system, the Vibrant Soundbridge provided a treatment option for adults with moderate-to-severe sensorineural hearing loss who were dissatisfied with traditional hearing aids. The company's technology utilized a unique electromagnetic transducer to directly vibrate the middle ear bones, bypassing the ear canal and tympanic membrane. Despite its clinical success and regulatory milestones, the company encountered financial difficulties and was eventually acquired by Med-El in 2003. Today, the technology remains a cornerstone of Med-El's middle ear implant portfolio.
