Synaptic Pharmaceutical Corporation was a biopharmaceutical company specializing in the discovery and development of drugs targeting G-protein coupled receptors (GPCRs). Based in Paramus, New Jersey, the company utilized its proprietary GPCR-based drug discovery platform to identify novel therapeutic candidates for central nervous system disorders, urological conditions, and metabolic diseases. Their research focused on specific receptor subtypes, including serotonin, adrenergic, and galanin receptors, to create more selective and effective treatments. In 2003, the company was acquired by the Danish pharmaceutical firm Lundbeck for approximately $121 million. This acquisition allowed Lundbeck to establish a significant research presence in the United States and integrate Synaptic's GPCR expertise into its global pipeline.
