Syndesmos

Syndesmos is a clinical-stage biopharmaceutical company focused on developing novel treatments for cognitive and neuropsychiatric disorders. Spun out from UCB in 2017, the company specializes in modulating the synaptic vesicle protein 2A (SV2A) to restore synaptic function. Its lead candidate, SDI-118, is a small molecule designed to improve synaptic efficiency and is being investigated for conditions such as cognitive impairment associated with schizophrenia and Alzheimer's disease. The company's approach targets the underlying deficit in synaptic connectivity common to many neurological diseases. In early 2022, Syndesmos was acquired by AbbVie in a deal valued at up to $1 billion. This acquisition aimed to bolster AbbVie's neuroscience portfolio with a unique mechanism of action for treating cognitive decline.
