Syndicom

Syndicom was a Swedish biotechnology company focused on the development of therapeutics targeting syndicans, a family of cell surface proteoglycans. Founded as a spin-off from Umeå University, the company specialized in the role of syndicans in cell signaling, inflammation, and tissue repair. Its research led to the identification of novel pathways for treating inflammatory diseases and promoting wound healing. In 1997, Syndicom was acquired by Pharmacia & Upjohn for approximately $55 million, primarily for its expertise in syndican biology and its potential applications in oncology and inflammatory disorders. The company's assets were subsequently integrated into Pharmacia's (and later Pfizer's) research and development pipeline.
