Overview
Synsorb developed oral carbohydrate-based drugs designed to bind and neutralize bacterial toxins rather than kill bacteria directly. Its lead product, Synsorb Pk, was in Phase III trials for prevention of hemolytic uremic syndrome due to verotoxigenic E. coli infection; another product, Synsorb Cd, was in Phase II trials for recurrent Clostridium difficile-associated diarrhea as of the late 1990s/early 2000s. The company also explored cancer therapeutics using reovirus targeting the Ras pathway after acquiring Oncolytics Biotech Inc.
