Synthelabo Tanabe Chimie

Synthelabo Tanabe Chimie was a strategic joint venture between the French pharmaceutical group Synthelabo and the Japanese company Tanabe Seiyaku. Based in Aramon, France, the entity specialized in the large-scale chemical synthesis of active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs), most notably the calcium channel blocker diltiazem. The partnership combined Synthelabo's European industrial presence with Tanabe's specialized chemical manufacturing expertise. Following the 1999 merger of Sanofi and Synthelabo, the joint venture's operations were integrated into Sanofi's industrial affairs division. Today, the legacy of the joint venture resides within Sanofi's chemical manufacturing network, with the Aramon site now managed under Sanofi's API spin-off, Euroapi. The company played a significant role in the global supply chain for essential cardiovascular medications during its period of operation.
