Company intelligence / Profile preview
Syrrx was a pioneering biotechnology company that specialized in high-throughput structural proteomics to accelerate the discovery of small molecule drugs. By automating the process of X-ray crystallography, the company was able to determine the three-dimensional structures of protein targets and their interactions with drug candidates at an unprecedented scale. This structure-based drug design approach led to the discovery of alogliptin, a highly selective dipeptidyl peptidase 4 (DPP-4) inhibitor for the treatment of type 2 diabetes. In 2005, Syrrx was acquired by Takeda Pharmaceutical Company for approximately $270 million, subsequently becoming Takeda California. The company's legacy continues through the commercial success of its metabolic and oncology programs developed using its proprietary platform.
