Systems Pathology Company

Systems Pathology Company (SPC) was a Seattle-based digital pathology and artificial intelligence company that specialized in automating tissue evaluation for preclinical drug development. Founded in 2006 by Gary L. Knutsen, the company developed the Computer Assisted Pathology System (CAPS™), a proprietary software platform designed to enhance traditional toxicologic pathology through advanced analytical imaging and AI. The technology aimed to improve the efficiency and accuracy of pathologists by automating routine aspects of tissue analysis, thereby accelerating the preclinical reporting process. In 2009, the company was acquired by Charles River Laboratories for approximately $24 million to be integrated into their global preclinical service offerings.
