Company intelligence / Profile preview
Taiga BioActives Inc. was a Canadian biotechnology company based in Calgary, Alberta, that specialized in the development of natural health products (NHPs) and botanical therapeutics. Founded in 1993 as Termidor Corporation and renamed in 1999, the company focused on creating topical treatments for common medical conditions, most notably cold sores. Its flagship product, Dr. Krane's KoolLips, utilized an active natural complex derived from the Cranesbill geranium plant to provide antiviral and astringent properties. The company established a national distribution alliance in 2008 to commercialize its over-the-counter portfolio in the Canadian retail pharmacy market. Beyond dermatology, Taiga conducted research into botanical-based appetite suppressants and antibacterial applications. The company ceased operations after entering bankruptcy proceedings in March 2016.
