Talecris Biologics was a prominent biopharmaceutical company focused on the development and manufacture of life-saving plasma-derived protein therapies. Established in 2005 through the acquisition of Bayer's plasma business by Cerberus Capital Management and Ampersand Capital Partners, the company became a leader in treating rare and genetic diseases. Its portfolio featured high-profile products such as Gamunex for immune deficiencies and Prolastin for alpha-1 antitrypsin deficiency. Headquartered in Research Triangle Park, North Carolina, Talecris operated extensive plasma collection and fractionation facilities. In June 2011, the company was acquired by Grifols for approximately $3.4 billion, creating one of the world's largest plasma therapy providers.
