Taligen Therapeutics was a biotechnology company focused on developing novel therapeutic inhibitors of the complement system to treat serious inflammatory and immune-mediated diseases. The company's proprietary technology platform enabled the development of tissue-targeted complement inhibitors, which were designed to localize the therapeutic effect to the site of disease, potentially improving efficacy and safety. Their lead candidate, TT30, was a first-in-class soluble fusion protein designed to regulate the alternative complement pathway by targeting C3 fragments. In January 2011, the company was acquired by Alexion Pharmaceuticals for $111 million upfront, plus potential milestone payments. This acquisition allowed Alexion to expand its leadership in complement biology beyond its flagship product, Soliris.
