TAP Pharmaceuticals was a prominent joint venture between Takeda Pharmaceutical Company and Abbott Laboratories, established in 1977 to develop and commercialize specialty pharmaceutical products in North America. The company was best known for its market-leading products, including the blockbuster proton pump inhibitor Prevacid (lansoprazole) and the GnRH agonist Lupron (leuprolide acetate), which became standard-of-care treatments for acid-related gastrointestinal disorders and prostate cancer, respectively. At its peak, TAP was one of the top pharmaceutical companies in the United States by revenue, focusing primarily on oncology, urology, and gastroenterology. The joint venture was dissolved in 2008, with its assets and personnel split between the two parent companies, Takeda and Abbott.
