Overview
Targacept developed a pipeline of small molecule drugs targeting neuronal nicotinic receptors for central nervous system and gastrointestinal indications. The company achieved positive Phase 2b results for TC-5214 as an adjunctive treatment for major depressive disorder and advanced several other candidates into clinical trials. However, after a series of failed late-stage trials and strategic shifts, the company was acquired by Catalyst Biosciences in 2015 via reverse merger.
