TARIS Biomedical

TARIS Biomedical was a private urology-focused biotech developing drug-device combination products designed to deliver medicines continuously within the bladder. The company built an intravesical drug-releasing platform intended to provide sustained local therapy for difficult-to-treat bladder diseases, including bladder cancer and interstitial cystitis/bladder pain syndrome. Its best-known programs included LiRIS, a lidocaine-releasing intravesical system that was acquired by Allergan, and gemcitabine-based bladder cancer programs that later became part of Johnson & Johnson's pipeline. Johnson & Johnson acquired TARIS Biomedical in December 2019 to strengthen its bladder cancer portfolio and targeted releasing systems capabilities. As a standalone company, TARIS is no longer active and its key assets have been absorbed into larger organizations.
