Taylor Pharmacal

Taylor Pharmacal was a specialized pharmaceutical manufacturing company based in Decatur, Illinois, that focused on the production of sterile injectable and ophthalmic drug products. The company operated as a contract manufacturing organization (CMO) for major pharmaceutical firms while also maintaining its own line of generic multi-source injectables. In 1996, Taylor Pharmacal was acquired by Akorn, Inc., serving as the foundation for Akorn's manufacturing capabilities in the specialty injectable market. The Decatur facility remained a core asset of Akorn until the parent company filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy and ceased all U.S. operations in early 2023.
