Te Whatu Ora

Te Whatu Ora, also known as Health New Zealand, is the national government agency responsible for the planning and delivery of all public health services in New Zealand. Established on July 1, 2022, it was created to replace the country's 20 District Health Boards (DHBs) with a single, unified national health system. The organization manages the operation of all public hospitals, coordinates primary and community care, and oversees the national health workforce. Te Whatu Ora works in conjunction with Te Aka Whai Ora (the Māori Health Authority) and the Ministry of Health to improve health equity and outcomes for all New Zealanders. It also serves as a major hub for clinical research and trials conducted within the New Zealand public health infrastructure.
