Overview
TeGenero AG was a German biotech spin-out from the University of Würzburg that developed TGN1412, a humanized monoclonal antibody targeting CD28 as an immunomodulator. In March 2006, its first-in-human Phase I trial resulted in life-threatening cytokine storm reactions among all volunteers. The incident led to global scrutiny of early-phase clinical trials and caused the company's bankruptcy within months. The drug's rights were later acquired by another entity and renamed TAB08 for further development elsewhere.
