Company intelligence / Profile preview
Telectronics was a pioneering medical technology company specializing in cardiac rhythm management devices, most notably pacemakers and implantable cardioverter defibrillators (ICDs). Founded in Australia in 1963, the company became a global leader in the development of implantable electronic devices to treat heart rhythm disorders. It was recognized for significant innovations in pacing technology and lead design during the 1970s and 1980s. In 1994, the company was acquired by St. Jude Medical from Pacific Dunlop for approximately $170 million. The acquisition followed a period of legal and financial challenges related to a major recall of its Accufix atrial 'J' pacing leads. Its technologies and product lines were subsequently integrated into St. Jude Medical's portfolio, which was later acquired by Abbott in 2017.
