Testbiotech is an independent non-profit institute based in Munich, Germany, that focuses on the impact assessment of biotechnology. Founded in 2008, the organization evaluates the risks of genetic engineering and new genomic techniques (NGTs) from the perspective of protecting human health, nature, and the environment. It provides scientific expertise and critical analysis of biotechnological developments, including genetically modified organisms (GMOs), synthetic biology, and gene editing in agriculture and medicine. Testbiotech operates independently of the biotech industry and is funded through private donations and public project grants.
