Tetrionics

Tetrionics was a specialized contract development and manufacturing organization (CDMO) focused on high-potency active pharmaceutical ingredients (HPAPIs). Founded in 1989 as a spin-off from the University of Wisconsin-Madison by Dr. Hector DeLuca, the company became a leader in the synthesis of complex small molecules, particularly Vitamin D analogs. Tetrionics operated state-of-the-art containment facilities in Madison, Wisconsin, providing services from initial process development to commercial-scale GMP manufacturing. In 2004, the company was acquired by Sigma-Aldrich for approximately $10 million to form the cornerstone of its SAFC High Potency business. Following the 2015 merger of Sigma-Aldrich and Merck KGaA, the legacy Tetrionics site continues to operate as a key HPAPI manufacturing center within MilliporeSigma.
