Company intelligence / Profile preview
Teva Kowa Pharma was a joint venture established in 2008 between Teva Pharmaceutical Industries and Kowa Company to develop and market generic medicines in Japan. The company combined Teva's global generic expertise with Kowa's established distribution network and brand reputation in the Japanese market. In 2011, Teva acquired Kowa's 50% stake for $150 million to take full control of the venture. In 2012, it was merged with Taiyo Pharmaceutical Industry to form Teva Pharma Japan, which later became part of the Teva Takeda Pharma joint venture in 2016. The venture was a key part of Teva's strategy to become a leader in the Japanese generic market, which was the second largest in the world at the time.
