ThalassaX Therapeutics is a Cambridge-based biotechnology company focused on developing innovative tRNA-based therapies for hemoglobinopathies, such as beta-thalassemia and sickle cell disease. The company leverages a proprietary platform to engineer suppressor tRNAs that can overcome nonsense mutations, which are responsible for a significant portion of genetic blood disorders. By enabling the cellular machinery to read through premature stop codons, ThalassaX aims to restore the production of functional beta-globin proteins. The company was co-founded by Dr. Mitchell Weiss of St. Jude Children's Research Hospital and Dr. David Williams of Boston Children's Hospital, both of whom are pioneers in hematology. Backed by Atlas Venture, ThalassaX is currently advancing its pre-clinical pipeline to address high unmet medical needs in rare genetic diseases.
