Thalidomide Pharmion

Pharmion Corporation was a global biopharmaceutical company focused on the acquisition, development, and commercialization of innovative products for the treatment of cancer and blood-related diseases. The company was most notable for its role in the commercialization of Thalomid (thalidomide) for multiple myeloma and leprosy, as well as Vidaza (azacitidine) for myelodysplastic syndromes. Pharmion was instrumental in rehabilitating thalidomide's clinical reputation by establishing the rigorous S.T.E.P.S. safety and distribution program. Headquartered in Boulder, Colorado, the company maintained a significant commercial presence in Europe and other international markets. In March 2008, Pharmion was acquired by Celgene Corporation for approximately $2.9 billion, and its assets are now part of Bristol Myers Squibb following the 2019 Celgene acquisition.
