The Harrington Project

The Harrington Project for Discovery & Development is a $300 million national initiative based at University Hospitals in Cleveland, Ohio, designed to bridge the "valley of death" in drug development. Launched in 2012, it utilizes a unique blended non-profit/for-profit model consisting of the Harrington Discovery Institute and the for-profit accelerator BioMotiv. The project provides physician-scientists with grant funding, drug development expertise through its Therapeutics Development Center, and access to capital to transition academic discoveries into clinical-stage therapies. It focuses on high-impact areas including rare diseases, brain health, and major unmet medical needs through global partnerships with organizations like the University of Oxford and Takeda. Since its inception, the project has supported over 170 drug discovery programs and launched dozens of startup companies.
