The Haven

Haven was a high-profile healthcare joint venture established in 2018 by Amazon, Berkshire Hathaway, and JPMorgan Chase with the goal of transforming the American healthcare system. The non-profit entity focused on leveraging data and technology to improve primary care access, simplify insurance benefits, and lower prescription drug costs for the combined 1.2 million employees of its founding companies. Despite its ambitious mission and leadership by renowned surgeon Atul Gawande, the venture struggled to execute a unified strategy across its diverse member populations and faced internal competition from its founders' own healthcare initiatives. Haven officially disbanded in February 2021, though its insights continue to inform the independent healthcare strategies of its three parent organizations.
