The Immune Response

The Immune Response Corporation was a pioneering biotechnology company founded in 1986 by polio vaccine creator Jonas Salk and entrepreneur Kevin Kimberlin. The company focused on developing therapeutic vaccines designed to stimulate the immune system to treat chronic infectious diseases and autoimmune disorders. Its most prominent candidate, Remune (HIV-1 Immunogen), was a whole-inactivated HIV vaccine that reached Phase 3 clinical trials and was one of the first therapies to demonstrate immune reconstitution in HIV patients. The company also advanced NeuroVax, a T-cell receptor peptide vaccine for multiple sclerosis, into Phase 2/3 trials. Although the original corporation liquidated its assets in 2008 following clinical setbacks and funding challenges, its core technologies and product candidates continue to be developed by successor entities such as Immune Response BioPharma.
