The Roslin Foundation

The Roslin Foundation is an independent charitable company based in Scotland, dedicated to advancing research and development in the biosciences, particularly in agriculture and biomedicine. Originally established as the Roslin Institute in 1995—famed for cloning Dolly the Sheep—it evolved into its current foundational role in 2008 after the Institute's research operations merged with the University of Edinburgh. Today, the Foundation functions as a funding and investment body, supporting PhD studentships and innovative research projects through collaboration with the Roslin Institute. It holds significant equity in commercial spin-outs such as RoslinCT, a leading cell and gene therapy CDMO, and Axol Bioscience. By reinvesting the proceeds from its commercial ventures, the Roslin Foundation continues to foster scientific breakthroughs in animal health and human medicine on a global scale.
