The Witness Project of Connecticut

The Witness Project of Connecticut was a community-based non-profit organization dedicated to reducing breast and cervical cancer mortality among African American women. Founded in 1996 by Marilyn Moore, the organization operated as a chapter of the National Witness Project, an evidence-based outreach program originally developed at the University of Arkansas. The project utilized "Witness Role Models"—cancer survivors who shared their personal experiences—to provide culturally competent education and promote early detection and screening within faith-based and community settings. In addition to education, the organization provided patient navigation services to help underserved women overcome socioeconomic and systemic barriers to healthcare. Although the Connecticut chapter is no longer active, its work significantly impacted health equity and cancer awareness in the Bridgeport and Fairfield County areas.
