Company intelligence / Profile preview
Theken Disc was a medical device company specializing in the development of next-generation spinal disc replacement technology. Based in Akron, Ohio, the company was part of the Theken family of companies founded by Randy Theken. Its flagship product, the eDisc, was a micro-electronic artificial spinal disc designed to provide real-time data on spinal loads while restoring natural motion. In August 2008, Integra LifeSciences acquired Theken Disc along with its sister companies, Theken Spine and Theken Orthopaedic, for $75 million in upfront cash. This acquisition significantly bolstered Integra's portfolio in the orthopedic spine market, integrating Theken's motion-preservation technologies into its broader surgical offerings.
