TheraCode

TheraCode was a German biotechnology company focused on the development of personalized cancer immunotherapies. Founded in 2007 by Uğur Şahin, Özlem Türeci, and Christoph Huber, the company specialized in identifying patient-specific neoantigens to create tailored mRNA vaccines and T-cell therapies. Its core technology, the IVAC (Individualized Vaccines Against Cancer) platform, was designed to trigger a precise immune response against a patient's unique tumor profile. In 2008, TheraCode was acquired by the newly formed BioNTech, where its assets and research became the foundation for BioNTech's individualized neoantigen-specific immunotherapy (iNeST) programs. The company's pioneering work in mRNA-based personalized medicine continues to be a central pillar of BioNTech's oncology strategy. TheraCode's integration allowed for the rapid scaling of personalized vaccine manufacturing and clinical development.
