Theraptosis

Theraptosis was a French biotechnology company founded in 2001 as a spin-off from the Institut Pasteur and the CNRS. The company specialized in the discovery and development of therapeutic molecules that modulate cell death (apoptosis) for the treatment of oncology and neurodegenerative diseases. Utilizing its proprietary screening platforms, MitoTrust and CytoTrust, Theraptosis identified small molecules that target mitochondrial pathways to either induce or prevent apoptosis. Its lead candidate, TRP601 (ORPHA133563), was a caspase inhibitor developed for neonatal hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy (HIE). In 2009, Chiesi Farmaceutici acquired the rights to TRP601, and the company was subsequently liquidated around 2012. Theraptosis was a pioneer in targeting mitochondrial-mediated cell death for neuroprotection and cancer therapy.
