ThermMed is a biotechnology company founded by inventor John Kanzius to advance a breakthrough non-invasive radiofrequency (RF) treatment for cancer. The company’s proprietary platform, the Kanzius RF Generator, transmits radio waves to selectively heat targeted nanoparticles—typically gold or carbon nanotubes—that have been introduced into the body and bound to malignant cells via conjugated antibodies. This localized heating process, known as nanoparticle-mediated hyperthermia, aims to destroy tumors through thermal energy while sparing healthy surrounding tissues. Extensively validated in preclinical models at institutions such as the University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center and Baylor College of Medicine, the technology showed promise for treating pancreatic and hepatocellular cancers. Although the company’s intellectual property was later acquired by NeoTherma Oncology, ThermMed remains the foundational entity for the development of the Kanzius RF therapy system.
