Company intelligence / Profile preview
The SuperSaturated Oxygen (SSO₂) Therapy system developed by TherOx delivers hyperoxemic levels of oxygen directly to ischemic myocardium after PCI and stenting in severe heart attack patients. Clinical trials demonstrated a consistent reduction in infarct size (~26%) and improved left ventricular function. FDA approval was granted for the first and second-generation systems. SSO₂ Therapy has been shown to reduce death or new-onset heart failure hospitalization at one year compared to standard care.
"A 26% relative reduction in infarct size has been correlated with relative reductions in both death and heart failure hospitalization of ~25% at 1 year."
"SSO₂ Therapy...is the first and only FDA-approved treatment beyond percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) to reduce muscle damage in heart attack patients."
"Clinical trials show consistent benefit...and a reduction in infarct size of 26%."
"Treatment with SSO₂ was associated with a lower 1-year rate of all-cause death or new-onset heart failure..."
